HyperDrive: The iPad hard drive boosts your iPad storage to 750GBIFA 2010: External hard drive ends storage problems for Apple tablet

The company behind the popular external battery packs for the MacBooks, HyperMac, has launched a new external gadget for the iPad.

But rather than just a battery, or a keyboard, the HyperDrive is an iPad hard drive offering your Apple tablet a further 750GB of storage on the go and way beyond the top of the range 64GB model currently available.

The external drive, which comes with it’s own 3.2-inch colour display, d-pad and menu buttons takes a standard hard drive and then lets you transfer videos and image files to the iPad with the help of the official Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit and the iPad’s photo importer app.

Lloyds insurers fall for Apple iPad charms

Apple’s iPad has broken into yet another enterprise sector, this time the insurance industry with internationally-known insurer, Lloyds, working with brokers to test use of the Apple device in its underwriting room.

The trial began this month and will see iPads used instead of the more traditional underwriting slips. Brokers, Marsh, Cooper Gay and RK Harrison Group are testing the Apple devices.

Wood iPad Stand helps with volume

People have been designing speakers in different shapes to optimize the sound for years, but a stand that does the same is a little more rare.  This iPad stand is supposed to help optimize the sound purely by the design of the stand itself.  It doesn’t have any extra electronic gimmicks, just a well thought out design.

Nobody ever claimed that the iPad was weatherproof, but that didn’t stop news anchor Chuck Scarborough from taking his tablet out to the seashore. Reader Michael Neumann saw the veteran NYC broadcaster using his iPad to show weather radar during Hurricane Earl’s race up the US east coast. He could have saved money on that case, though.

The ongoing relationship between Kiwa Media’s Qbooks and Penguin New Zealand has produced this little “retro” number – a retelling of an old classic that I was previously unaware of called “Flick the Little Red Fire Engine“. I previously reviewed “Hairy Maclary from Donaldson’s Dairy” and this title backs that one up very well.

I am a fan of what this partnership is producing. They are going for good quality stories and content. They are treating the original stories and illustrations with respect. They are getting serious voice talent for their books (this one has Sam Neill as Narrator). But, they are still making the experience an interactive one for children and making use of what the iPad has to offer.

iPad running a video calling debugger spotted in the wild

According to 9to5 Mac, they have gotten their hands on a partial screen shot that purportedly shows an Apple iPad running a video calling debugger.  With such a small section of the screen present in the leaked shot, it is difficult to assess whether this leak is valid. If true, a video calling debugger suggests the next generation iPad could feature a front-facing camera with FaceTime support. To decide whether an iPad running a video calling debugger is at all plausible, one can only look at the surrounding circumstantial evidence.
